Hello and welcome to Camp Summit. Having spent many years working with gifted and talented children in many different capacities (STEM Programs, leadership trainings, different classroom environments, day camps) it had always been my dream to provide a place for our children to be able to meet and bond on a regular basis with like-minded individuals in an outdoor environment. It was when raising three gifted children of my own that I realized how important camp can be in the development of young minds and character. A special thanks to Pony and Friski (my mentors and friends from the camp my kids attended) for their knowledge and philosophy that I would like to think rubbed off on me a little. After much planning and effort with both Dr. Dan Peters and Dr. Susan Daniels, the three of us founded CAMP SUMMIT.
It is hard to believe that we are now entering our eighth year of camp. In that time we have grown and expanded from our first year with a little more than 30 campers to full capacity. The response from campers and parents has been overwhelming and convinced Dr. Michael Postma and myself that a Camp Summit East was possible and very much needed. In August 2017 we will host Camp Summit East in at North Bay Adventure in Maryland in order to reach even more campers. What an adventure!
We have learned quite a lot along the way but each year it seems to get better and better. As I walk through camp each day chatting and observing our campers in action, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by how fortunate I truly am. Where else can you play your favorite strategy games, create an exquisite piece of art, build a complex machine, and still have time for a nature hike all in one day? Watching them laugh, smile, create and bond with fellow campers is everything that I had hoped for and to see it realized is indeed a dream come true.
Of course, Camp Summit would not be so special without the consistent presence of a knowledgeable, hard working staff (please check out our dedicated staff – they truly are amazing) and the annual sacrifice of our dedicated parents who transport and entrust their precious children to us each year.
A big Thank you to everyone from your Executive Director. I hope to see you soon.
