Edward R. Amend, Psy.D.

Ed Amend  
   

Ed Amend is a Clinical Psychologist at Amend Psychological Services, P.S.C., licensed to provide psychological services in Kentucky and Ohio. In his private practice in Lexington, Kentucky (with a satellite office in Cincinnati, Ohio), Dr. Amend focuses on the social, emotional, and educational needs of gifted and talented youth, adults, and their families. He has worked in both private practice and community mental health settings, as well as in consulting positions with clinics, hospitals, schools, and other organizations. He presents locally and nationally on topics related to the needs of gifted children.

Dr. Amend is co-author of two award-winning books: A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children and Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Bipolar, OCD, Asperger's, Depression, and Other Disorders. Dr. Amend has authored or co-authored a number of articles, book chapters, and columns about gifted children.

Jim DeLisle, Ph.D.

Dr. Jim Delisle has taught gifted children and those who work on their behalf for more than 30 years. He retired from Kent State University in 2008 after 25 years of service as a professor of gifted education. Throughout his career, Jim also worked as a part-time teacher of gifted middle school children. This weekly excursion into the real world of public school classrooms helped to cement both Jim’s professional credibility and his respect for the hectic lives of classroom teachers. His work’s practical application is a direct result of this weekly intervention into the world of schools.

Jim is the author of Parenting Gifted Kids and 14 other books, and more than 250 articles. His work has been translated into multiple languages, and has been featured in professional journals as well as in The New York Times and on The Oprah Winfrey Show. A frequent presenter on gifted children’s intellectual and emotional growth, Jim has addressed audiences in 48 states and in nations as diverse as England, China, and Saudi Arabia.

  Jean Peterson
   

Jean Sunde Peterson, Ph.D.

Jean Peterson is professor and director of school-counselor preparation at Purdue University. A former classroom and gifted-education teacher and now a licensed mental-health counselor, she has done considerable clinical work with gifted youth and their families. Her extensive research has focused largely on the social and emotional development of high-ability adolescents and the asset-burden paradox of giftedness. Her most recent books are Gifted at Risk: Poetic Profiles; The Essential Guide to Talking with Gifted Teens; and Models of Counseling Gifted Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults.

Robert Arthur Schultz, Ph.D.

Robert Arthur Schultz is Professor of Gifted Education and Curriculum Studies at the University of Toledo where he teaches gifted education courses, curriculum, and middle grades methods to undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. He is the current chair of the Conceptual Foundations Network of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), serves as a Young Scholars Specialist for the Davidson Institute as well as a Contributing Editor to Roeper Review and Gifted Child Today. Bob was also highly involved in curriculum development and design for the Davidson Academy in Reno, Nevada while serving as their Curriculum Director. He specializes in social/emotional needs of the gifted and design, development and delivery of innovative practices and plans for teaching the gifted and highly/profoundly gifted individuals.

James T. Webb, Ph.D., ABPP-CL

Jim Webb has been recognized as one of the 25 most influential psychologists nationally on gifted education, and he consults with schools, programs, and individuals about the social and emotional needs of gifted and talented children. In 1981, Dr. Webb established Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted Children, Inc. (SENG), a national nonprofit organization that provides information, training, conferences and workshops, and he remains Chair of SENG’s Professional Advisory Committee.

A frequent keynote and workshop speaker at state and national conventions, Dr. Webb, a licensed and board-certified psychologist, has appeared on Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, The Phil Donahue Show, CNN, Public Radio International, and National Public Radio. A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, he served for three years on its governing body, the Council of Representatives. Dr. Webb is a Fellow of the Society of Pediatric Psychology and the Society for Personality Assessment. In 1992, he received the Heiser Presidential Award for Advocacy by the American Psychological Association, and also the National Award for Excellence, Senior Investigator Division, from the Mensa Education and Research Foundation. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Gifted Children, and was President of the American Association for Gifted Children. Currently, Dr. Webb is President of Great Potential Press, Inc.
